Most Australian banks are still living in the dark ages. If you want your transaction history from more than 24 months ago, they cut off your CSV access and force you to download PDFs. I genuinely believe basic data sovereignty should be a legal standard, but the banking industry clearly doesn't share my view.
When I tried finding a tool to convert my old statements back into usable data, the options out there were sketchy at best. If you actually read the privacy policies on most global PDF converters, they quietly admit to storing your bank statements on their servers for anywhere from 30 minutes to 24 hours. Handing over my entire financial history to a random site for a whole day was an absolute dealbreaker for me.
People also suggest using AI, but feeding bank statements into an LLM is just as bad. We all saw the ChatGPT private chat leaks. You have no idea if your transaction data is being cached, reviewed, or stored somewhere.
