MockDPE is the first AI-powered FAA Instrument Rating checkride simulator built specifically for instrument rating applicants, CFIIs, and current instrument pilots preparing for their IPC. The platform reproduces the oral portion of the FAA practical test with a conversational AI examiner that questions, probes, and evaluates candidates exactly the
way a real Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE) does on checkride day.
Every session is grounded in the official FAA Instrument Rating Airman Certification Standards (ACS). The AI examiner pulls scenarios from real airports, real aircraft, and live weather, then evaluates each response against the specific ACS task being tested. The DPE flags knowledge gaps, weak areas, and the exact regulations or procedures the applicant should review. Sessions can run as a full mock checkride, a focused practice block on a single ACS Area of Operation, a quick diagnostic, or a guided lesson with an AI instructor.
Pilots can choose from multiple DPE personas with varying levels of strictness and practice with realistic scenarios built from a database of thousands of US airports, approach plates, navaids, and aircraft performance data. Every exchange is scored, logged, and turned into a personalized study plan, so applicants walk into their real checkride knowing exactly where they stand.
A traditional mock oral with a CFII can cost several hundred dollars and requires scheduling weeks in advance for one time feedback. MockDPE delivers unlimited, on demand checkride practice for a flat monthly subscription. This makes high quality oral exam prep accessible to every instrument student, not just those with the time and budget to book repeated practice sessions.
MockDPE examiners boast 96.3% grading consistency across hundreds of training iterations as well as validation from independent CFIIs. In the future, MockDPE will support exam prep for other FAA certificates and ratings.
