About

AppClap is a search engine for web software. Instead of browsing categories and comparing star ratings, you describe what you need in plain words - for example "a Notion alternative that is self-hostable and has a free tier" - and AppClap finds the tools that actually fit.

Every result is explained relative to your request. Each card shows a one-line reason why the tool matched, a "Fits your ask" list with the points it meets and a "Caveats" list with what it is missing. The fit score is computed against your query, not against an average of reviews, so the same tool ranks differently for different asks.

Pricing is decoded instead of hidden. AppClap shows whether a tool has a free tier or a free trial, how the billing works and what the plans include, so you know the cheapest way to try something before you click through.

Under the hood, the catalog is built by an AI pipeline that crawls product websites, extracts structured data (features, pricing plans, integrations, platforms, deployment, open source and self-hosting status) and re-crawls it to keep it fresh. Search combines semantic vector retrieval with keyword matching and reranking, so both "tool for X" and exact product names work.

What AppClap does not do: no pay-to-rank, no sponsored placements, no lead-gen forms, no star ratings as the main signal. When something could not be determined from the source, the product page says so instead of guessing.

Product pages include a description, use cases, the full feature list, pricing plans, integrations, platforms, company info and a live preview of the website. Results can be sorted by relevance, cheapest or most established.

Built by two brothers as a transparent alternative to G2 and Capterra. Free to use. Vendors can submit their own tool to the catalog.
