Desk Rug is the Mac app that gives your desktop a floor, a rug - and a way to hide the mess in one second.
Real cloth, real physics. The rug is a full fabric simulation rendered through Metal: it unfurls when it appears, sags under its own weight, and bulges into soft mounds over the icons you hide underneath it. It's not a picture on the screen - it's cloth you can grab by any edge, drag, fold, and drop.
The usefulness is simple. Before a call, a screen share, or a demo, your desktop is the first thing everyone sees. Sweep your icons under the rug with a global hotkey (configurable) from any app. They're not deleted — they're moved via Finder - and put back around the edge the moment you need them, in the same spots you left them.
Refined beyond the original concept: a reworked cloth solver for tighter, more stable simulation, faster startup and lower CPU use on older Macs, and a wider feature set — rugs and floors, your own images for both, a per-day schedule that tidies the desk while you're away, Space-switching A/B profiles, soft cloth sounds, and 13 interface languages.
Private by design: no accounts, no sign-ins, no analytics, no network calls. It runs entirely on your Mac.
