About
Mixdog is an open-source (Apache-2.0) desktop coding agent. A lead model plans the work, and cheaper models handle search, edits and review, so routine steps don't burn your most expensive model.
On Terminal-Bench 2.1 with the same model as Codex CLI (GPT-5.6 Sol, all 89 tasks, 5 runs each), Mixdog scored 86.5% vs 86.1% while using 63% fewer tokens (156.5M vs 421.4M). Most of the savings come from not re-sending things: tools and skills load only when needed, and large tool outputs go to a file with a short preview in context.
A small fine-tuned model (EmbeddingGemma 2, about 150 MB, runs on CPU) picks the reasoning effort for each step.
It works with the Claude or ChatGPT subscription you already have, or with API keys. Raw benchmark logs and configs are in the repo.
