Aloud is a native macOS app (macOS 14 Sonoma or later) that reads text out loud wherever you are. Select text in any app and press Control-Option-S (or use the Services menu), open a PDF and it reads the body while skipping running headers, footers and page numbers, or point it at a screenshot or scanned page and on-device text recognition reads it.
Every word is highlighted as it is spoken, and you can click any word to jump there. Voices run on device: Apple voices including Enhanced and Premium, plus the Kokoro neural voice on Apple silicon Macs with macOS 15 or later. If you want cloud voices, bring your own ElevenLabs or Cartesia API key. Export any text to an .m4a file, and use Shortcuts, Siri actions and a Control Center control.
No account, no subscription, and no analytics or telemetry in the app. $19 one-time, per Mac; the license key is emailed after checkout.
