About

FilmCraft is a free, open-source, non-linear video editor created by the ArtCraft team as an accessible alternative to Adobe Premiere Pro. Written in Rust, it runs natively on macOS, Windows, and FreeBSD, while its WebAssembly version enables browser-based editing without installation. Users can also keep their media on their own computers when working online.

The editor provides a familiar professional workflow, including Project panels, bins, Source and Program monitors, multitrack timelines, three-point editing, and ripple, roll, slip, and slide trimming. Its keyboard shortcuts follow conventions familiar to Premiere users, helping editors transition quickly.

FilmCraft supports frame-accurate editing with native H.264, HEVC, ProRes, VP9, AV1, AAC, and Opus support, plus export options such as H.264 MP4, ProRes 422 HQ, PNG sequences, and GIF. Creative tools include video effects, transitions, GPU-composited keyframes, curves, color wheels, HSL secondaries, LUTs, HDR and log workflows, waveform and vectorscope displays, loudness meters, audio automation, and native DSP effects.

The software can also be scripted through its CLI, JSON channel, or MCP server. As an alpha-stage project, FilmCraft is best suited to learning, personal projects, and users seeking a subscription-free editing workflow.
