AgentTM — Time-Travel Debugging for AI Coding Agents

AgentTM is a local-first debugging tool built to make AI-assisted coding more transparent, inspectable, and recoverable. Starting with OpenAI Codex, it records agent execution activity and workspace checkpoints, allowing developers to understand what happened during a coding session and safely revisit earlier code states.

Key Features

  • Agent Execution Timeline: Record supported Codex commands, tool calls, and execution events in a visual timeline.

  • Workspace Checkpoints: Automatically capture baseline, final, and supported operation-boundary snapshots during agent execution.

  • Historical File Explorer: Browse previous versions of project files without modifying the current workspace.

  • Code Diff Viewer: Compare file changes between checkpoints to understand how the code evolved.

  • Safe Checkpoint Restoration: Restore captured files into isolated Git worktrees without overwriting your original repository.

  • Interactive Codex Chat: Chat directly with Codex through the native Windows desktop application, including model selection and supported approval prompts.

  • Conversation Continuation: Resume previously saved Codex conversations.

  • Encrypted Backups: Create and restore passphrase-encrypted backups of AgentTM history.

  • Local-First Storage: Store session history in SQLite with SHA-256 content-addressable file storage and deduplication.

  • Storage Management: Run integrity diagnostics, purge recorded sessions, and clean up unreferenced file objects.

Why AgentTM?

Git tracks committed code changes, but it doesn't explain the sequence of actions an AI coding agent performed between commits.

AgentTM complements Git by providing observable agent activity, historical workspace snapshots, and safe restoration workflows.

AgentTM is currently an early public beta focused on managed Codex sessions. It does not promise deterministic replay or exact attribution of code changes to individual agent operations.
