About
Northline Signal is a small free site that keeps a dated daily digest of GitHub Trending.
I kept losing repos. I'd open Trending with coffee, star one or two, close the tab. A week later I'd remember "there was a Rust tool for something" and have no way back. Trending only shows today. My stars list was a mess. So I kept a dated record for myself. It grew into this static site. Solo project. Still rough. Looking for hard feedback from people who actually open Trending.
What it does today:
- A page per day with that morning's trending repos
- Stars, stars gained that day, a rough category, and a short summary
- Project pages with language, repo link, dates it showed up, and a short note
- Explore filter across past days by category and language
- Chinese mirror for friends who read Chinese first
How it runs: GitHub Actions at 09:00 Beijing time pulls Trending, asks Gemini for summaries, and commits one JSON file per day. Vite + React + TypeScript on Firebase. No database, no always-on server.
Still messy: notes sometimes sound the same; free Gemini 503/429; cron skipped once; categories are fuzzy.
I built it with help from AI coding assistants, and used AI to help draft this listing.
Questions: are the short notes useful, or would plain descriptions be enough? What would make you come back?
