About

I built mesh2cad because STL files from Printables or Thingiverse are triangle soup you cannot really edit. It fits real planes, cylinders, cones, spheres and constant-radius fillets to the mesh and writes a STEP file plus CadQuery, OpenSCAD and FreeCAD scripts with named parameters, so you can change a hole diameter or a fillet radius with one variable. The newest release (0.21.0) can even rebuild a fully rounded box with its edge radius as one script parameter. It reports how close the result is to the mesh and falls back to faceted output instead of guessing. Works best on simple mechanical parts; organic shapes are out of scope. pip install mesh2cad.
